Travel Document (Form I-131)
A Travel Document allows certain non-citizens to travel outside the United States and return without jeopardizing their immigration status. It is primarily used by permanent residents, refugees, asylees, and individuals with pending immigration applications who need permission to travel.
You can apply for a travel document using Form I-131 (Application for Travel Document).
Who Needs a Travel Document?
You should apply for a travel document if you are:
✅ A Green Card holder who has been outside the U.S. for one year or more and needs a Reentry Permit to return.
✅ A refugee or asylee who needs a Refugee Travel Document to travel and return to the U.S. legally.
✅ An applicant with a pending Green Card (Adjustment of Status) application who needs Advance Parole to leave the U.S. temporarily and return without affecting their case.
✅ A DACA, TPS, or other temporary status holder who needs permission to travel abroad under Advance Parole.

Traveling without an approved travel document may result in losing your immigration benefits or being denied re-entry to the U.S.
