Form I-589 is used to apply for asylum in the United States. This application is for individuals who fear persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
If approved, asylum allows individuals to stay in the U.S. legally and eventually apply for a Green Card.
